The E will most likely have a d5s drive. This means having to jtag to acquire the dvd key soldering! Go for an elite model if you can get one cheap. If you are using a service which will flash the dvd key to the emulator your buying they only require the dvd drive from the elite. So it might be an idea to open up the console yourself for the dvd drive to be shipped off. It does need a few specialised tools if you don't want to do a hack job but it will be cheaper in the long run for postage costs.

Since the xbox requires a reboot when doing a dashboard update it will no longer know which backup to complete the update from because it's on the usb.
