If your international arrival is into Yangon, then an overland trip to scenic Hpa An or historic Mawlamyine are good options. A week in Myanmar is perfect for a quick but insightful introduction to the country. Rather than trying to cram in the four destinations, it is recommended to focus on two or three regions. If you are interested in history, Mandalay should be at the top of your list.
Nature lovers should head to the Inle Lake region, where endless trekking routes and bike trails can be found as well as a diverse mix of ethnic groups. Staying two nights in three different destinations or nights in two areas will result in a relaxing yet immersive holiday. Nine days is just barely!
It will be a fast trip but you will at least get a full day of exploring in each destination. With a few more days, you can slow down the pace in these key destinations or add in an overland trip to a lesser-known site such as Pindaya, Pyin Oo Lwin or Mt Popa.
This 1. The bridge was built around the year and is supported by over 1, wooden pillars. U Bein Bridge was named after the mayor who built it and today is used by thousands of people daily. It is particularly busy during July and August when the lake is at its highest. Apart from the locals, the U Bein Bridge also attracts many tourists. These Khmer statues were originally found at Angkor Wat in Cambodia and, over the time, they have been transferred to Ayutthaya and then Myanmar.
Apart from its religious importance, the Mahamuni Buddha Temple has a beautiful architecture with many details and specific statues. If you are spending two days in Mandalay, it would be a shame not to visit it. To find out about the difference between temples, pagodas and stupas, click here. The Buddha image is sculpted from a single block of green marble and the construction of this pagoda was completed in The Sandamuni Temple is well known for its beautiful golden pagoda, its shrines hosting inscribed marble slabs and the biggest iron Buddha image in Myanmar.
Here you will find tablets inscribed on both sides with Buddhist teachings. The temple is really beautiful and definitely worth a visit. You can walk between the small, white pagodas and enjoy the quiet surrounding you.
He was really friendly and sweet and after talking with him for a while, he said that he would pray for us and our families.
It was an incredible experience to be so close to a Buddhist monk and share stories with him. Check out the most beautiful temples around Myanmar here. This monastery is famous for its detailed teak carvings and visiting it will definitely impress you. While you are visiting the Shwenandaw Monastery, take a short walk and also visit the Atumashi Monastery.

Although climbing Mandalay Hill is an adventure you will have to climb barefoot , you will be rewarded with an incredible sunset view. The climb takes around 30 minutes and it is doable no matter your physical shape. Rather than trying to cram in the four destinations, it is recommended to focus on two or three regions.
