At this year's Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, each brand presented its vision for the ultimate rear-engined sports car. Singer's vision of the ultimate is based, has the four-valve head Porsche wouldn't build, and is just downright gorgeous.
It's a scenario where design and engineering live together in perfect harmony. We've driven it briefly, and it lives up to the hype. The RUF CTR might look like an air-cooled , but it's a bespoke carbon chassis with a water-cooled engine making ish horsepower. So where does this put the RUF? The styling is a clear call-back to the era of the original Yellowbird, but keen eyes will notice the contemporary touches like the lighting setups in the front and rear, as well as the inch 5-spoke wheels.
I love it; to me it looks like the first CTR developed a steroid problem and is doing its best to hide it. So, with the introduction of the new CTR, what is your ultimate ? And for me the price tag on the CTR is more understandable than what you get from Singer.
For me Singer is just overdesigned. Nevertheless, if you can spend so much on a Porsche, the best option is to get the best well preserved all original example. RUF is the winner here for me. Singer is an american interpretation, an overprized restauration with lots of make-up. RUF is the german approach, taking the idea to the next level and improve it from the start. Porsches were never beauty queens. Singer can close his shop.
Close his shop?? I am trying to appreciate your passion for RUF but there are loads of people that appreciate Singer. Or no room? I love a really well built car, whether from the factory or an independent shop.
Clearly both of these shops are outstanding. Stunning piece of work. The differences are, to me, cultural. Ruf replaced the body panels, upgraded the suspension, changed out the brakes, and totally changed the engine. The GT1 was designed for racing but happened to require a street-legal version, according to Wikipedia.
The only parts shared by both cars were the front and rear headlights. Some parts of the front chassis were also from the The track version GT1 came equipped with a 3. It participated in races and won 47 of those races. What is the difference between Ruf and Porsche? Ruf was adamant at completely overhauling a regular to such an extent that in , Ruf even offered the first and only V8-powered in history.
Where RUF has made the biggest improvement on Porsche vehicles is the power output, as Porsches from those eras were fairly tame compared to Ruf-enhanced s. The Yellowbird certainly is one of the most iconic cars from that era, especially because the Yellowbird outperformed all the major competitors from that era. All Ruf s have a distinct VIN, which means that they are completely standalone models which on paper have no relation to Porsche. What Ruf did with the CTR 2 s was also nothing short of spectacular as these models offered up to hp and were competing against full-on purpose-built strict racecars.
Ruf made an impact with the CTR2 at Pikes Peak international hill climb, Virginia City Hill Climb contest, and many other contests by only winning continuous pole positions. The Ruf CTR3 was released in , and this was the first time that Ruf has completely redesigned the entire from the very top to bottom. The CTR3 offered a unique body and a mid-engined configuration that was nothing short of groundbreaking.
For a spot of context about Multimatic and Bosch, this is the very same company that still produces the new Ford GT in Canada, and Bosch is one of the leading electronics-engineering companies in the entire industry. The eRuf model was capable of mph top speed, hp, and an estimated range of miles. Back in the s, however, this was the peak of the EV industry.
